The Benefits of Meditation

As a psychic, I meditate every day not only to relax and prepare for my day but also to take time to connect with the spirit world without distractions and interruptions. I enjoy my time meditating and if you haven’t given it a try, you should. Taking the time to prepare for the day through meditation will help you keep your focus, improve your memory and lessen your stress level.

Here are a few tips to help you begin.

  1. Make a commitment to yourself that you are going to meditate each day. Begin with 5 minutes and work up to 45 minutes. You can mediate as long as you like, but don’t expect to mediate 45 minutes right at the beginning. Are you thinking to yourself how am I going to add another 45 minutes to my busy day? Many mediate for 20 minutes each day and experience the feeling of peacefulness and happiness. Others find that meditating twice a day or for a longer period works best for them. Experiment to see what will work for you.
  2. Choose a chair, lie down, be inside or outside, eyes focused on a specific point or eyes closed. The goal is to find the combination that works for you. Then relax.
  3. Begin by focusing on your breath. Breathe naturally and notice how your breath affects your chest, shoulders and stomach. Keep your attention on your breath and if your mind wanders to your to do list, just gently bring your mind back to your breath. This focus will improve your ability to cut through your brain’s clutter and to find focus.
  4. End your mediation with a couple of minutes of gratitude, whether it be for your family or your job, or just gratitude for the kids cleaning their room. Feel grateful for something in your life.

Though meditation may feel extremely difficult in the beginning, don’t give up. Keep working at it. Just like an athlete trains their body, mediation is training for the brain.

I would love to know how you are making out with your meditation. What helps you stay focused?

Revenge, Maturity and Understanding

Remember when someone did something to hurt you? Did you immediately think of revenge  to make them pay for what they did to you? Did plotting revenge against that person make you feel better? What revenge planning does is holds onto the anger you are feeling against the person who hurt you. Plotting revenge takes up your physical and mental energy. Not only does plotting revenge take up lots of your time, it ultimately leads to higher levels of aggression and in the long run, will not give you closure or make you feel better but encourages you to continually think about how you were wronged.

Life Experience and Perception

Our life experiences, from our childhood onward, affect how we perceive everything that we experience each day. As a dog who has only been beaten will perceive a raised hand will beat him, a dog who has only known love will perceive a raised hand to pet and stroke him. If our world is colored with negative images and feelings, each time we see or feel similar images and feelings, we will have the same experience, regardless if the interaction was meant that way or not. It is our belief that with a certain action, a specific thing will result with that action. To change your perceptions, you must try to restructure the your beliefs of  negative images and feelings to positive images and feelings. The only way to do this is to begin to chance your internal belief system. The more positive interactions you have, the more they will begin to outweigh the negative interactions in your belief system. It does take conscious thought but over time you can be successful and make changes in your perceptions. It will not happen overnight or immediately, though with constant effort you can change your perceptions, which will change your thinking process and ultimately change your interactions with others and their interactions with you for the better.

Fearing Failure; Fearing Loss

Fearing failure or fearing loss stops you from going forward in life. If you don’t take the first step towards your goals or if you are fearful of telling someone you love them, you will be missing out on so many wonderful things you could experience in life. Take the chance and live life to the fullest.

Speak Only Kindness

I think it is always important to speak only kindness and to think about what we say to others and about others.  Use your words to speak  love to others, not hate. Once words are spoken there is no way to unsay them.
