As a psychic, I meditate every day not only to relax and prepare for my day but also to take time to connect with the spirit world without distractions and interruptions. I enjoy my time meditating and if you haven’t given it a try, you should. Taking the time to prepare for the day through meditation will help you keep your focus, improve your memory and lessen your stress level.
Here are a few tips to help you begin.
- Make a commitment to yourself that you are going to meditate each day. Begin with 5 minutes and work up to 45 minutes. You can mediate as long as you like, but don’t expect to mediate 45 minutes right at the beginning. Are you thinking to yourself how am I going to add another 45 minutes to my busy day? Many mediate for 20 minutes each day and experience the feeling of peacefulness and happiness. Others find that meditating twice a day or for a longer period works best for them. Experiment to see what will work for you.
- Choose a chair, lie down, be inside or outside, eyes focused on a specific point or eyes closed. The goal is to find the combination that works for you. Then relax.
- Begin by focusing on your breath. Breathe naturally and notice how your breath affects your chest, shoulders and stomach. Keep your attention on your breath and if your mind wanders to your to do list, just gently bring your mind back to your breath. This focus will improve your ability to cut through your brain’s clutter and to find focus.
- End your mediation with a couple of minutes of gratitude, whether it be for your family or your job, or just gratitude for the kids cleaning their room. Feel grateful for something in your life.
Though meditation may feel extremely difficult in the beginning, don’t give up. Keep working at it. Just like an athlete trains their body, mediation is training for the brain.
I would love to know how you are making out with your meditation. What helps you stay focused?
