The Benefits of Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese technique used for healing, reducing stress and relaxation and is a safe and natural method of spiritual healing that everyone can benefit from. In 1922, Mikao Usui, a Japanese Zen Buddhist, developed Reiki from healing methods he had learned in Asia. Over the next 15 years many of the currently used hand movements were added and in 1936, Hawayo Takata introduced Reiki to North America.

The natural energy within our bodies is made up of our aura (energy fields), our chakras (energy centers) and the meridians (energy pathways). Our auras take in energy, our chakras break that energy down and our meridians distribute the energy for use throughout our body. A Reiki practitioner acts as an open channel through which this energy flows to the recipient by touch which activates the natural healing processes within the recipient’s body. The energy of the practitioner is transmitted to the recipient through “laying on hands” and is based on the unseen life force energy that is in every person. The premise is, if a person’s life force energy is low, they are more susceptible to illness and stress. The higher the life energy, the happier and healthier a person is.

A Reiki session lasts approximately 30 to 90 minutes and naturally balances and aligns the seven major chakras. Sessions can be conducted in person or can be conducted via distance healing. When experiencing healing from a Reiki Practitioner, the recipient is usually lying down on a comfortable surface, fully clothed. The Reiki Practitioner will place their hands on or slightly above the recipient’s body during treatment. During distance healing, the Reiki Practitioner will request the recipient to allow and receive the Reiki energy to heal their physical, spiritual and mental being. The practitioner will then send the recipient healing energy throughout the Reiki session. Reiki recipients often feel a sense of relaxation, experience warmth or cold, tingling and refreshment during and/or after a Reiki session.
